## Dal Segno

D.S. means go back to the sign (𝄋), not to the beginning. D.S. al Coda means go back to the sign and then jump to the coda when you reach the coda mark.

Dal segno exists for pieces where the repeat starts partway in — an introduction that should not be played twice, for instance.

## How To Spot Dal Segno

The letters D.S. below the staff, and an ornate S-with-a-slash symbol earlier in the piece.

## Find It In Thirty Seconds

Find the D.S. and its sign, then trace the whole route including the coda jump before you play a note.
