## Middle C

Middle C is the C nearest the middle of the piano, and the note that sits on its own little ledger line between the two staves of piano music.

It is the hinge between the hands. In treble clef it hangs one ledger line below the staff; in bass clef it sits one ledger line above. Same key on the piano, two ways of writing it.


## How To Spot Middle C

On a piano, find the group of two black keys nearest the middle; middle C is the white key immediately to their left. On the page, it is the note with one short line through it between the staves.
