Web cams in Chordzy jams

Chordzy uses a web cam for one thing: showing your face to the other players in a live Jam session. Web cams are used only by the desktop app, during those jams. Each player gets a tile in the jam's member list, and your video plays inside yours. With no camera, the tile shows a plain user icon, and the jam works the same.

The website and the browser version of the game have no camera support. A browser will never ask Chordzy for your camera.

The desktop app runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. Get it from the install page.

Picking a camera

Chordzy sends video only after you pick a camera. Until then, no video goes out.

  1. In the desktop app, click the person icon in the upper-right to open your account.
  2. Choose the tab with the camera icon. Its heading is Video.
  3. Pick your camera from the list. A small live preview appears under it.
  4. Choose None to stop sending video.

Chordzy remembers the camera. It switches on when a jam screen opens, and you can change it in the middle of a jam; the feed restarts with the new camera.

When the camera will not start

A camera that sends no picture within 2 seconds of starting gives a warning titled WebCam that says it "could not start" the camera, followed by its name. The preview stays blank.

  • Close any other app that is using the camera, such as a video call, then pick the camera again.
  • On macOS, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Camera, and turn Chordzy on.
  • On Windows, open Settings, then Privacy & security, then Camera, and allow desktop apps to use it.
  • Unplug and replug a USB camera, then choose it again on the Video tab.

In a jam, a camera that failed gives no message at all. The other players see your user icon where the video should be. If your video freezes or arrives late while the sound is fine, check the connection with connecting to real-time jams.
