Every tool works with a MIDI keyboard plugged into your computer as well as with the mouse or a touch screen. When you are ready to practise for real, the buttons under each tool take you into the Chordzy app, which listens to what you play and grades it note by note.
How These Tools Fit Into Practice
A tool is not a lesson. The metronome will not teach you a scale and the chord finder will not teach you harmony, but each one removes a small obstacle that stops practice from happening at all. You do not have to find your metronome, remember which notes make a Bbm7, or look up how many flats are in Db major. You open a page and the answer is there.
The pattern that works is short and repeatable:
- Pick one thing to practise, such as the C major scale or a chord progression.
- Set the metronome slower than feels comfortable.
- Play it correctly three times in a row before you speed up.
- When a chord or a key signature stops you, check it in the chord finder or the circle of fifths and carry on.
For reading, spend five minutes a day on the sight-reading drill. Recognising a note on the staff is a reflex, and reflexes are built by many short repetitions rather than one long session. Are these tools really free?
Yes. Every tool on this page is free to use with no account. Chordzy's paid plans cover the full app with its lesson library and unlimited practice time; the tools are part of the free site.
Do I need a MIDI keyboard?
No. Every tool works with a mouse or a touch screen. If you do plug in a MIDI keyboard, the browser will ask once for permission and the tools will then hear what you play.
Why is there no sound the first time I press a key?
Browsers only start audio after you interact with the page, and the piano sound is a small file that loads on first use. Press a key, wait a moment, and it will play.
Can I use these on my phone?
Yes. The keyboards shrink to fit the screen; the circle of fifths and the metronome work on any size. A tablet in landscape gives the virtual piano the most room.
